An immigrant from Uruguay, Fernando came to the United States as a boy virtually penniless and rose to create StarMedia Network a company worth more than $4 billion at its peak, connecting the people of Latin America together through technology. He is currently the Chairman and CEO of VOY, LLC, a company focused on building a cultural bridge between Latinos and the mainstream through media platforms including cable television, music, television programming, film, publishing, and internet. VOY's core brand message is that self-empowerment and optimism are the keys to success and personal fulfillment. Espuelas' visionary leadership has earned him worldwide recognition. Time Magazine honored him as one of the "Leaders of the Millennium," and he was recognized as a "2000 All-Star" business leader by Crain's New York Business magazine. The World Economic Forum includes him among its elite "Global Leaders of Tomorrow," and he was also a recipient of Latin Trade Magazine's prestigious Bravo award. He received a New York magazine Award in 1999. Espuelas is a coveted speaker in the United States, Latin America and Europe on topics related to opportunities in the Latin American and U.S. Hispanic markets. He has also received extensive broadcast, print and online coverage throughout the world. Espuelas has a history of linking and integrating Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking communities. He was the Managing Director of Marketing Communications for AT&T Caribbean and Latin America. Prior to AT&T, Espuelas held various senior positions at Ogilvy & Mather in both the United States and Latin America.
